Nosara, Costa Rica has long been considered a top surfing destination among surfing enthusiasts. The beaches are extremely clean and almost never crowded which adds to the ideal surfing climate, along with the great waves, of course. In fact, the breaks here; from point breaks to lefts, rights and peaks are unparalleled in all the world. It is really a kind of surfer’s paradise in the middle of paradise, itself. The relaxed lifestyle, stable economy and low cost of living are enticing many people to make Nosara, Costa Rica their home.

Where to Surf?

Playa Guiones is probably the ideal surfing destination in Nosara, Costa Rica. You may get even better waves at Playa Ostional, but the sharp rock formations, heavy shark population due to the large numbers of turtles that nest there and blistering hot black sand beaches make it less than hospitable for surfers. Guiones is ideal with its pink sandy beaches and multiple peaks both left and right and ideal beach breaks. Travelling to the hottest surfing locations in Nosara is no easy feat since there are very few paved roads, but according to surfing aficionados, it is well worth it even if you have to walk a certain distance to get there.

When to Surf?

Nosara, Costa Rica has an exceptionally long surf season from October to May with the most ideal surfing happening between December and April each year. This allows for a great deal of flexibility if you are looking to plan the ideal surfing vacation. The best time of day to surf in Nosara, Costa Rica is just like in California-in the morning. If you are serious about your surfing, you will want to forego overdoing the wild nightlife and get to bed at a decent hour so you can get up early enough to catch the early morning waves at Guiones.

Planning a Trip to Nosara

You will need to check with the airlines about getting to Costa Rica. Be sure to check with the airlines regarding their policies for carrying your board. From there you will have to rent a car to drive to Nosara. Keep in mind that few roads are paved and it will be a rough ride. Make sure you bring your own soft racks and straps because rental cars in Costa Rica aren’t usually equipped with them. Surfing in Nosara, Costa Rica is the trip of a lifetime for anyone who is serious about surfing.

Where can you and your significant other go for a weekend getaway when one of you loves sports and the other one loves shopping? Patriot Place, Boston’s newest entertainment complex, sports venue, and shopping mall all rolled into one, is the solution.

What Will You Find Here?

In addition to including Gillette Stadium, home to the 3-time Super Bowl champions New England Patriots and the New England Revolution soccer team, Patriot Place is also a huge outdoor shopping mall specializing in entertainment retailing. Most shopping malls include “anchor” stores – typically one or more large department stores that attract large numbers of shoppers who then visit the smaller shops and boutiques elsewhere in the mall.

Here, however, the “anchor” formula is unique: in addition to the stadium, you’ll find the only Bass Pro Shops in New England anchoring one end of the mall and at the other end an equally weighty anchor, an enormous Showcase Cinema de Lux movie theater flanked by Showcase Live, an entertainment space for musical performances, children’s theater, and comedy. In between these three anchors, you’ll find smaller stores, shops, restaurants, and pubs. You’ll even find “The Hall,” a museum dedicated to celebrating and preserving the accomplishments of the Patriots and New England football.

If you love hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and outdoor life, you could easily spend a whole day in the enormous Bass Pro Shops alone. If you get bored with shopping for all of the gear that you could possibly need, no problem–stop by the in-store shooting gallery or settle down by the huge hunting lodge-like fireplace in the store’s bar and relax with a drink and some snacks. For a taste of nature, head up to the observation deck and use one of the telescopes to look for wildlife in the complex’s adjacent wetlands and woodlands.

Other shopping options include lots of athletic and weekend clothing stores such as Eastern Mountain Sports, Puma, and Old Navy. You’ll also find a Bed Bath and Beyond, a Christmas Tree Shop, and, if you want your clothing to communicate your loyalty to the team, a Patriots Pro Shop.

If you have tickets to a game, you can stop off at the stadium as you progress through the mall. Otherwise, you might catch a blockbuster movie in the theater or head for dinner at Skipjack’s, Tastings Bar and Bistro, or try some fabulous Northern Italian cuisine at Davio’s.

Why Combine a Stadium with a Mall? And What’s Next?

There are many reasons for a flight being delayed. This means that you will be waiting hour upon hour in the plane for whatever reason. Your body needs a regular source of food to keep you at your peak and most airlines food is basically no more than a chemical based snack. If you have a supply of good healthy food as a backup this will see you through well. A healthy cereal bar and a couple of pieces of fruit will make the different between you feeling good or feeling drained at the end of the day.

When you are staying in a hotel the alarms and wake-up calls just can’t be relied upon. Before you set off have your own alarm system with you. It can be a small travel clock, a cheap digital watch with an alarm setting or even a stopwatch. If you have a pager check out the alarm system on that and get familiar with it. The last thing you want is to rush and forget things because third party alarm system fails you.

Carrying too much luggage is a burden and not always necessary on business trips. A good tip is to dress up in you business outfit if you have a meeting straight after arriving. Among other things it acts an insurance in case you luggage is lost – this has happened thousands of times, to thousands of people don’t think you are excluded; just don’t take the risk. Clothing includes footwear. The question is how many shoes do you need to take? The answer, two pairs, one for business one for casual. You will always be wearing one pair, so you only need pack one set. Don’t bother with slippers; just take a thick pair of socks to wear in hotels instead.

Communication is important and a good tip is to send faxes back home to communicate if you are in a different time zone. Not only that a fax is cheaper than you think it is definitely cheaper and more practical than calling by telephone at an unearthly time. It also adds a personal touch if you send it handwritten. In fact, this is quite romantic nowadays to send handwritten messages through the fax medium. If you leave the hotel fax number with friends and family they can contact you. Email is the other unromantic option you can normally set up an email account for nothing for your children and send them lots of massages and attachments. Pack a digital camera, and send digital photographs of you destination – it’s free don’t forget.
